How to avoid cutlery from rusting

Caring for Cutlery

At Party Equip UK, we supply food and drink serving equipment for rent which includes stainless steel cutlery and food serving utensils.

When you hire cutlery from us , we will give you information on the proper care of the implements while it is in your possession.  Whether it is a restaurant, a small gathering, a corporate event, dirty cutlery is a put off regardless of how good and delicious the food is.  Therefore DO NOT ruin the appetite of your guests by serving them with rust cutlery and utensils.

By providing this information, our main emphasis is on user safety, avoiding food poisoning and for the proper handling and maintenance of our equipment. Besides, if the equipment is ruined, it may cost the service user unnecessary costs that should be avoided.

User Safety:

  • Before this equipment is handed over to the service user, all the cutlery units are cleaned properly and free from rust and food remnants.
  • There is always ample time (an hour slot) for the service user to thoroughly inspect the implements before they collect them or before it is handed over to them.
  • Dirty and rusty cutlery can contaminate our food with deadly toxins.
  • We supply cutlery in cutlery holders that are also clean.

Potential damage to Cutlery

  • The main damage that is more likely to happen is discolouration and rusting of cutlery units.
  • Once the cutlery is rusty upon return, the customer and/or service user may face extra charges in restoring the implements in their original state.  The customer may choose to replace the damaged items which is still a cost that can be avoided.
  • Therefore, please avoid unwanted costs by following the provided SOP.

How to avoid Rust and Discolouration on Cutlery:

Simply follow this systematic approach when using and caring for stainless steel cutlery and utensils:

  1. Before you use them, keep them in cool dry environment
  2. After use, make sure you soak the cutlery for at least 15 minutes in warm soapy water to soften any food remnants stuck on it.
  3. Wash them in the dishwasher or by hand using non-metallic and/or abrasive swabs.
  4. When you are handwashing your cutlery, make sure you rinse it in clean water while inspecting that it is thoroughly clean.
  5. Dry thoroughly. You can use a drier to make sure it is thoroughly dry before taking it for storage.
  6. Make sure the cutlery holder is clean and thoroughly dry.
